The drone delivery service launched by FedEx and Walgreens will be available in Christensburg, Virginia next month. This pilot project will showcase the many benefits of drone delivery to the community by exploring ways to enhance one mile delivery services, improve access to healthcare products, and create new growth paths for local businesses.

The delivery of drones in the United States has always been limited to small-scale demonstrations at testing sites or extremely short flights along pre planned fixed routes - all within the sight of drone operators. Earlier this year, Wing became a drone operator certified by the Federal Aviation Administration as an air carrier, allowing it to transport commercial cargo to potential recipients several miles away. Wing's pilot program in Virginia will be conducted as part of the United States Department of Transportation's Unmanned Aircraft System Integration Pilot Program (IPP).

If certain operating conditions are met, FedEx customers residing in the Christensburg delivery area of Virginia and choosing Wing delivery services will be able to receive packages via drones during the trial period. FedEx Express President and CEO Don Colleran said, "FedEx is constantly innovating and testing solutions to meet growing customer needs, and we are pleased to add this pilot project to our physical innovation product portfolio.".

Walgreens and Wing's products will provide greater convenience and access to health and wellness, food, beverages, and convenience products by providing over-the-counter drugs and other items to local residents and delivering them on demand via air within minutes. They are orderly. As part of the collaboration, the two companies will further explore the future of retail distribution through pilot programs.
