DHL Express, a global express delivery service provider, announced that it has invested over $78 million to renovate and expand its existing hub facility at Miami International Airport. These improvements further strengthen the company's connectivity and service capabilities, increasing flights to and from Europe, the Asia Pacific region, and South America (including cities in Chile, Mexico, and the United States)
As the holiday season approaches, these investments come at the right time and the volume has significantly increased, especially from international B2C and B2B e-commerce. DHL Express expects the shipment volume of the entire Americas region to continue to maintain double-digit growth (year-on-year) during the upcoming peak holiday season. Based on the pandemic trends of the past two years and the surge in online consumer purchases, B2C shipments from countries in the Americas increased by an average of 44% in 2020 (YoY) and 21% in 2021 (YTD September 10).
DHL CEO Mike Parra said, "Our Miami hub has always been an important gateway to South America, Central America, and the Caribbean, and we are pleased to see our connections with the rest of the world become closer through new investments and flights.". "This is part of our continuous expansion and improvement of our infrastructure, modernization and development of our fleet, and establishment of new routes. The overall result is increased flexibility, reliability, and service to meet our customers' growing international transportation needs."
