Non Johannesburg, April 30, 2024: A subsidiary of FedEx (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world's largest express transportation companies, FedEx donated 200 bicycles and repair kits to young people in underserved communities in rural Africa. In collaboration with charitable organizations, these bicycles were donated to 17-19 year old children in a high school in the Uit č k region of South Africa.
According to statistics from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), over one-fifth of primary school age children and nearly 60% of young people aged 15-17 in sub Saharan Africa are out of school, partly due to a lack of transportation to school. Even today, in many regions of Africa, children have to walk several miles every day, usually in challenging conditions before they can go to school. The lack of reliable transportation hinders their ability to fully participate in learning and affects their health, thereby limiting opportunities for personal and economic development.
"Education is a fundamental right for everyone, and we at FedEx believe that education helps improve our lives. We are proud of our cooperation, which is consistent with our commitment to addressing grassroots socio-economic challenges.
